Ground Vehicles Frontier/Military

Description

Many colonies are surrounded by vast stretches of Open, often rugged terrain. A large central settlement and support facility houses a good portion of most colonies, while individual settlements facilities, and housing compounds can be miles, or hundreds of miles from the Colony hub.
As a result personal and utility transports are common and very popular with the frontier and colonial militia. While Affordable anti-grav, and vesctor thrust vehiclesa re reliable and inexpensive enough for private purchase on a large scale, Ground vehicles still hold the largest fraction of the market due to their ease of construction and maintenance.
Typically complex systems such as motors, power systems, and electronics are manufactured off world, and shipped as kits to local factories which fabricate the chassis and bodies of the vehicles. This leads to a wide variety of styles, and quality. However some companies sell the complete vehicle, or component parts to be assembled at local firms for sale.

Most vehicles now use a small power plant, such as a feul cell, or gas turbine powered generator to provide electric current to compact high torque motors mounted in each wheel. This arrangement allows a vehicle to operate on one, or two motors, allowing them to operate with multiple failures or damage.
Semi hollow tires which have an internal support structure along with air cells for comfort, give an added layer of reliability since even if the tire is heavily damaged it will remain usable and will not flatten like normal air filled tires.

the military makes heavy use of ground vehicles as well, their low noise, thermal, and electromagnetic signature make them an excellent choice for scouting and or utility work without giving away their position to sensitive electronic sensing systems often used by drones, and missiles.
Often the only difference between a civilian and military model of a vehicle is the presence of ballistic and energy absorbing panels under the outer skin of the vehicle, and the military grade communications systems used for command and control.
Dedicated military vehicle may feature heavy external armor as well, in many cases formed from a composite metal/ballistic fabric system that can defeat small arms, and protect against mortars grenades, and other light explosive ordnance.

The largest manufacture of pre-assembled vehicles are Rhictor Heavy Industries. K'haen Civil transport, And Hiehmdahl Motowerks. While technically competitors all three companies use interchangeable parts, and all fasteners and electrical components are manufactured to identical standards and measurements to allow in the field repairs using a wide variety of parts from one another.
While this is the case in frontier and military models all three companies compete in more civilized areas where ease of repair and commonality of parts may be the only difference between life and death.

I want the ranch truck, second row on the left.  Could fit a low camper to the back of it and use it for gold prospecting in the mountains and desert.
