Cesti Fighters

Description

Cesti are renowned for the combat piloting skills. The combination of extremely keen senses excellent gee force tolerance and natural predatory instincts, combine to allow Cesti pilots to out perform most other species even under the most challenging circumstances.

Cesti Fighters tend to be agile, fast, and well armed. Though they are usually lightly armored and lack advanced damage control systems this seldom limits the effectiveness of Cesti craft.

All Cesti fighter craft carry an effective mix of direct fire projectile weapons, missiles, and heavy ordnance giving them a good long, mid, and short range punch compared to hostile craft they are likely to encounter. when armed with bombs, rockets, or torpedoes Cesti Strike fighters become a lethal menace to light civilian shipping and most gunships, raiders, and corvettes.

The current front line fighters are, or were, Manufactured by the Furesh and Eastwinde clans, with the destruction of Furesh facilities due to an unexplained explosion the Furesh have ceased fighter production until their light craft yards can be repaired and production resumed.

the two examples shown are the Jawkrahl ( Circling Vulture/Death Bird ) Strike fighter ad the Jawlriik ( Circling Hawk)Both craft are designed by the same combined Furesh/Eastwinde design team as part of an inter clan cooperative agreement. Though wing foils and egine types are different the two craft share nearly every major complainant and control/sensor systems.

Both craft suprisingly have little difference in performance due to the overpowered engines and gravitic systems mounted on the Vulture. In combat the vulture pilot simply jettisons his heavy ordnance and is fully capable of fighting as effectively as the lighter Hawk,( alhough such radical maneuvers and high output of drive and control systems radically reduce its range, and may cause stress damage to various portions of the load bearing frame of the craft.

on combat sorties Hawks will be mixed into Vulture formations, and match the speed and maneuvers of heavily loaded strike fighters. Duringthe approach to target, the hawks will use various electronic, and visual, deception techniques including false ordnance, and drive vanes, to match the sensor, and visual profile of a Vulture. When hostile forces are detected the Hawks will drop their false weapons and vanes, accelerate rapidly and punch a hole through screening fighters to allow the Vultures a clear line of attack to the target.

These tactics often confuse and slow response to approaching cesti fighter strikes, due to the need to more cautiously coordinate defensive strikes to counter the possible presence of undetected Hawks within the formation. the frequent use of disguised all hawk formations to lure enemy patrols, and screening fighters, into ambushes has resulted in severe losses to fighter screens sent up by hostile forces on many occasions.

In combat superiority operations the two craft work in teams, vultures providing heavy long range missile, torpedo coverage while the more agile and faster hawks engage the enemy in close in combat.
Often the Vultures will loiter at the perimeter of a fleet battle and unload salves of missiles and torpedoes, while hawks move in to intercept and destroy enemy fighters missiles, and torpedoes.

NOTES:
The two craft display both the clan chevrons of their clan on the center line fuselage of the craft, and the squadron leader stripes on the wing of their craft. the markings are usually subdued during flight to avoid detection by the enemy but are brightly illuminated in close combat to allow squadron pilots to easily identify the lead fighter.
